Philippine, President Arrives Last Night, Meets President Jokowi at Bogor Palace Today

    The new President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., arrived at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Sunday (04/09/2022) evening. This marks his first visit to Indonesia since being sworn in as president of the Philippines last June.


    The Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate who directly welcomed Marcos Jr.'s arrival. “I was assigned to pick up Mr. President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos JR. His visit is certainly an honor for Indonesia," said Johnny at the VVIP Building Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang.


    According to Johnny, the visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos JR placed Indonesia as a strategic neighbor to the Philippines.


    He hopes that Marcos Jr's visit can encourage the creation of more cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines, especially in the digital and telecommunications sectors. “We certainly hope that there will be a lot of bilateral cooperation that we can do, considering that the geographical conditions of the Philippines and Indonesia in the ICT sector are almost similar. Indonesia is an archipelagic country, the Philippines is also an archipelagic country, it's almost the same," he said, quoted by Antara.


    One of them is the use of Indonesian satellites for the Philippines which is expected to create new cooperation between the two countries.


    Johnny also said that the plan was being drawn up between telecommunications companies from the two countries. "Next year we will launch two High Throughput Satellites (HTS), with a capacity of 300 Giga bytes per second, some of which have the potential to be used by the Philippines," he explained.


    Meanwhile, according to the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marcos Jr will be in Indonesia until Tuesday (06/09/2022). The son of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. will meet the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. H. Joko Widodo today at the Bogor Palace.


    The two presidents will reportedly discuss active and multifaceted cooperation in the fields of agriculture, maritime affairs, borders, economy, and people-to-people cooperation. Jokowi and Marcos Jr. will also exchange views on key issues affecting the region and the world.


    In addition, the two presidents will also witness the signing of several important agreements in the fields of defense and culture, as well as a comprehensive action plan that will map out the bilateral priorities of the two countries over the next five years.


    During his visit to Indonesia, Marcos Jr. will also meet with business leaders to promote trade and investment to support the Philippines' economic agenda under his administration.


    After visiting Indonesia, Marcos Jr. will also visit Singapore on September 6 to 7 at the invitation of President Halimah Yacob.
